Bread Baker’s Apprentice: CHALLENGE #2 Artos Greek Celebration Bread

This is my take of the BBA Challenge #2. I decided
to bake the plain Artos Greek Celebration Bread.
The Christoptomos freaked me out a tad. It looked like an
octopus to me. LOL.
I tried out my new proofing baskets that I got from:
I had never used anything like that before and it is only
my 2nd time trying a boule.
I added 1 cup plus 2 tablespoons of extra flour and of
course I again put my initial on the biggest boule. :o) I just had too.
Awesome smell, super taste and the texture is great. :o)

  1. Hey Susie, it looks like part of your post is cut off on the sides. Love that you added another 'S' to this batch, too! :-)

I bet that will make some great french toast!

  2. Nicole,
Thanks for letting me know my post was cut off some. :) I don't
know how you find the time to do all you do and still go through the BBA book.
A friend stopped in this morning while I was letting the dough rise and she said it would make good French Toast too. :)
    Thanks,
    Susie

  16. Sweet Charity,
Glad to see you are excited about Artos. It is so good.
Those brotfroms I would never have gotten if I hadn't found such a great price on them. :) They are normally twice that price. :) Hope you can get some soon.

  17. Lovely loaves, Sue. I like how you individualized it.
Can't wait to see the Artos...
Good luck with the upcoming bagels, too. You really shouldn't fret, they're not all that complex and it's not like you're a bread novice.

  18. Paul,
    Thanks! :)
You're right. I got to reading all through the bagel recipe and it doesn't seem to be too bad. I guess it just being something 'new' but they won't be new by the end of next week. :o)
    Thanks,
    Susie

  19. I'm so impressed with your bread making skills Susie. I just finished watched your video on how to form rolls. Very informative. No wonder mine never come out right...lol

Great job on your greek bread girl!

  20. Mags,
WOW, thank you SO very much for the compliment and encouragement.
There are other ways to form rolls but my way works for me and seems quick.
    Thanks!
Are we having fun yet? LOL.

  25. Am I sensing an "S" them/brand here LOL. Looks like wonderful crumb on your loaves.
I used all the spices and even extra of them. My husband picked this again and again for his snack in the afternoon. I really enjoyed this one and the glaze seemed just right to us.

  26. MyKitchenInHalfCups,
Yes, I've got an "S" them going. LOL!
I didn't do the glaze but should try it next time and add all the extra goodies too. :)
    Thanks,
    Susie

  27. Looks wonderful Sue. French toast sound good!

I may get behind this week...I had company leave today, hosting a dinner part this Friday and than more guest coming to stay on Saturday. Why does everything happen in one week? LOL

I'm glad your book arrived! I have mine now too! Yeah!

Are you going to write about your adventures to CA and back? That should be a lot of fun

    Take care,
    Tammy

  28. Tammy,
I know what you mean about things getting wicked busy. :) I guess we or I should say I need to keep in my head that this is to learn, to have fun, and not a race. We don't have to have the whole book done in a year or even two.
I'll have time to read all the info pages tomorrow. :)
My husband is thinking he will take the laptop so maybe we will keep track of things.
    Thanks,
    Susie

    ReplyDelete
  29. Got to take the laptop so we can look at the weather forecast and you can keep track of your bread group. :^) It will pack OK.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Yes, it will be nice to check the weather and it would be nice to find phone numbers of motels so we can call ahead and get prices BEFORE we get there. :)
Will I still have room for my make-up? LOL

  31. Your Artos looks delicious! And I love the "S" brands. Great idea. I'm starting my Artos (poolish) this afternoon and am also probably making it a plain one.

Great to be baking along with you and the others!

  32. -R,
Thanks! I think I will make the Artos next time with the works. It is a great tasting loaf plain but I think it would be great with the 'stuff'.
    Have fun,
    Susie

  33. Ooh, now I want a brotform. I did the plain version as well, but did a large braid for mine. (I made it last weekend, but I probably won't get the post up for a few more days.) Nice job!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Di,
    Thanks!
You should get yourself a few brotforms. They are fun. The place in my write up is the cheapest I've seen.
You did a braid? Can't wait to see.
    Susie

  35. I have a couple of brotforms, so next time I can do the Artos in those! It's a good alternative for the Christopsomos, if you don't want any "foreign objects" in your bread.

    Great looking loaves!

    ReplyDelete
  36. gorel,
You can still use the brotforms with the 'foreign objects' right?
    Thanks for liking my loaves.

I will make this one again for sure.

  39. The outside and the inside look so great! I thought it looked like an octopus hugging itself, too! Your boule looks perfect.
