Stray cat! Should I keep her???

There has been a stray cat hanging around our street for months now.

I've seen it and wondered about it. My next door neighbor asked me to put food out for it on her ramp while she was gone for 5 days so I said sure.  She said she wished someone would take her.

My husband went to put food out this morning and she was already there waiting. He petted her and she seemed nice and said I should go look at her so I did. She let me pet her.

A bit later I took the cat food bag and shook it outside my door and she came running. She came in for a bit and then seemed like she wanted to leave so I let her out. An hour later I shook the bag again and she came running in again.

She has been here since morning and seems to love it. She is now on our grand-doggers dog bed taking a nap. OH NO! LOL!
My daughter in law Erica and our grandson Drew came over to check her out (she is a she according to Erica)! I didn't know what it was. LOL!
Should I keep her? I called the vet and it will be almost $200 to have her get shots, wormed and spade.
Just weighed her this morning (Mon. 4-9-2012) and she weighs 8 lbs.

  5. She seems very nice. It would be wonderful of you to keep her. She seems like a cat someone abandoned. I took in a stray once and he was a wonderful addition to our family. Also, some cats have an id chip in their ear. If she is lost that might help locate the owner. But given the time she's been wandering your street, I doubt she's lost. She seems very at home already!

  6. Choose wisely, the commitment should be for her lifetime!

  8. She looks like she could use some TLC. I would keep her. Yes, it does cost money, but in the long run you get more love than you can handle. I have absolutely no respect for any one that would abandon an animal like that.

My son was driving back from CA & picked up a dog that he said was about 60 miles from any town. Poor thing was skinny & dirty. All in all for the shots, getting him fixed etc. around $500. The vet thinks he's about 2 so we have him for 10-12 years if nothing happens to him. He is sooo loving. & fits in with our other 2 dogs, & 2 cats that are also rescues.

  11. Yes you should :) I am an animal rescue volunteer and $200 is actually a GREAT deal for the whole she-bang! You're saving a life, and will have a friend for ages.

Yes, we decided to keep her. I ran to Walmart and got the supplies needed. She was great all night. She is eating breakfast now and seems real happy.
I'll call the vets office and make an appointment,

  13. You have to keep her, she's so cute. You can always check out the anti cruelty society they often have lower fees (even free) in regards to neuter/spaying is finances are tight.

  14. You didnt choose her. Looks like she definitely chose you ;-) My parents adopted a cat who was found near a pond several towns over, declawed, spayed, and very scared. I didn't think she was abandoned. I think she got out and got lost. Maybe this cat had the same? She isnt afraid of people, so she wasnt a victim of abuse? She's safe now, either way.

  15. Beata,
Yes, she is cute and we ARE keeping her. I'm calling the Vet we had for our Labs this morning.
    :)

    Candy,
LOL! Our town is pretty small so you would think we would have heard of someone losing a black cat or that she would have found her way back. Maybe she went into heat and they got rid of her because of the noise and didn't have the money to have her taken care of. Oh well.........It seems she really loves it her. Yes, she is safe and will LOTS of attention when she wants it. Cats are SO different than dogs. :)
